How to play Morff

The box has two sets of each deck. My family put both sets together and played the game. Were we suppossed to use only one set? It takes a little longer with both sets but its more fun. Do you have to play the trump or can you play any of the cards that you want?

Trump Cards-Please reply

I don't understand why it is necessary for the trump cards to be layed out for everyone to see after they have been used. Whats the point. Do you go back to some of the trump cards you have already used. I would appreciate a reply. Thank You

Lingo

The only thing I was still confused about when I had read through this and watched the video was the trump suit. I didn't know what Trump meant, I ddn't realize that Trump was basically high suit of the hand. It is not required suit, just high suit, meaning it takes the trick. That needs to be explained somewhere with the rest of the lingo.

What is the point?

My daughters bought this game to enjoy during the summer and on camping trips. But we can't figure out how to play and not have the same person win everytime. We have watched the video over and over and are still very confussed!!!

What is the point?

Thanks for posting -- sorry, I was on vacation and just got back. What specifically are you confused about? I'm perplexed b/c we've never had someone say that the same person wins every time. If you can give me specific questions I'm happy to help and answer. Email me direction at Corie@eurekaranch.com

Help ME

I cant understand the vidio or the rules it is to confusing

Hi it is easy for me

I pick it up so fast it is not confusing. I just brake it down parts and it is easy to do that. If you want to play a confusing game then play Rage, it is a card game to I like morff better then rage cuz morff is easy to lean. Maybe if you play more then 4 it is some time confusing. If you don't like the rules then chang the rules so you can play it easy. Like play with out teams. maybe it is confusing to kids cuz it is for 6 and up and a 6 year old plays it. Ya it will be confusing to them.

ME E-THER

ME NEITHER IT'S WAY 2 CONFUSING MY MOM PICKED IT OUT YAH IM 12-13YRS.
OLD!!

Good Question

You do not have to lead with trump. You can lead with whatever card you like.

Playing with Both Decks

So it is ok to play with both decks if we want too?

Both Decks is Definitely Okay

It is definitely okay to play with both decks I'm actually going to post this week on the front page that when playing with two decks if two people lay down the same card the person who lays it down second wins the trick if they have the highest trump or the highest card from the suit lead.

too many cards with 6

we played with 6 players with both decks and there are extra cards...what cards do u take out

same number

We actually played last night and not knowing all the rules we kind of made up our own. When two people laid down the same number we called battle and left them there. The first person who played the first 8 got to go aqain and we played until there was a winner. So a team could win maybe 3 or 4 books at one time. It was fun that way.

two cards of the same suit same number

The way we play is that if two people on oposite teams plays the 8 of the suit then the next highest card wins.

Example. If I Play an 8 and the next player plays an 8 of the same suit. then it is up to my partner and the other player to determine who wins the book. So if my partner plays a 7 and the other player plays a 5 then my partner wins the trick.

This can make it really interesting if I play an 8 then the next player plays a 6 then my partner (who thinks I have won the book)plays a 5 then the other player plays an 8 now the person who played the 6 wins.

The Two cards of the same number above is a cool idea

First off I like the two card of the same value variant discussed above. Really neat idea we'll have to try that in some of our games - thanks.

Secondly to all those people out there complaining about the game - watch the video it's not that hard. I own some board games with 12 pages of rules that would knock your socks off.

In defence of Eureka Ranch this web site definately clears up a lot of questions. I agree that the printed rules left a lot to be desired and the fact that only one of the two printed decks are used should have been clearer but that's water under the bridge now. I'm sure in the next version of the game the rules will be updated and clarified so that the game can be played straight out of the box without having to come to this website for clarification.

Once some of the basic confusion about the decks is striped away - it is a very simple game. I have definately played games that were much more complex. Chess, Checkers, Monopoly, and Risk are more complex than Morff.

Jack of [many] games...Master of [some]

As I tend to be the one to find new games to introduce to my gaming groups, it falls to me to learn them, and then teach them to everyone else. I was picking up Phase 10 as a change of pace for our daily work lunch break card game and happened upon Morff. It looks like it'll be fun to play.

I do see the confusion with the quick reference rules cards. Most commercial card games will include quick reference cards like these along with their fold out rules and advertisement page. The Morff rules take it for granted that not everyone may have played a game such as Spades, Hearts, Euchre, or one of the many variants of Rummy. As such, terminology such as trump, suit, throw off, trick, etc., may seem overwhelming at first. On the other hand, for those who haven't played games like those, the company takes it for granted that they will have internet access to watch the tutorial video. But as has been stated, that's all water under the bridge.

Here are a few other great card games my groups play:

Phase 10

Easy to learn; quick to play.

Three Dragon Ante

Moderately easy to learn; can take hours to play. Also works best when using poker chips, or the like, to keep track of gold instead of having to have a score keeper. Somehow money disappears when someone has to play accountant, and sadly it doesn't even end up in the accountant's pocket.

Lunch Money / Beer Money

At heart, it's easy to learn. Games can run from "What happened?" to "Why won't you just tap out already?" Differences in ink colors between sets complicate things a bit. Card interaction between sets can get a bit hazy. If a card seems like too much of a hassle, remove it from your deck. Our house rule is that Imaginary Friends can use weapons. [Just watch Fight Club.]

Don't forget the aforementioned Spades, Hearts, Euchre, or one of the many variants of Rummy. I learned what is called Chinese Rummy from one of my friends and his family. It's one of the many variants of Contract Rummy. One of our managers at work told me the version he plays, and it was so radically different.

If anyone needs any rules clarifications on any of these games or would like more recommendations or even has recommendations of their own, feel free to email me.

Rook

Rook is also a very fun bidding game, available in almost every store right in the cards section, preferably 4 people. http://www.pagat.com/kt5/rook.html

Jack of (many) games

Thanks for all the great comments -- and you are right we learned a HUGE lesson with the first release of MORFF. We did make the mistake of assuming that all people are familiar with card playing terminology. In the new edited directions we give definitions and address all the previous rules issues.

By the way I love you game recs -- haven't played some of them, but I'm a huge Phase 10 fan -- my husband and I carry the dice version when we travel.

next edition rules--please send

I just bought these today 7-31 and got the old version of insufficient directions. Please send your new & improved rules with definitions ASAP. Thanks. This game is rated for 6 year olds, as a 43 year old, I shouldn't need this much help just to play...

THANKS FOR YOUR PROMPT HELP. Perhaps you could put the new edition of useful rules on this website?
